Labo BXL: atelier partagé
In a tall building in Brussels shared by various creative organisations and non-profits, there is a space dedicatedto analogue cinematography, where film strips hang to dry, tea is being brewed and a community project has taken shape. Projectors, editing tables and other machines sit side by side in the rooms, most of which have been rescued and repurposed. This is Labo BXL, a space dedicated to analogue production with a focus on research, project development, and training curious artists while experimenting with all sorts of old and new analogue techniques.

As an artist, having an idea is sometimes the easy part. Executing that idea and turning it into a physical creation is often a different story, especially when a lot of technical expertise is involved. Founded in 2024 by a team of four experienced technicians and designers, .TheWorkshop offers not only the tools and materials, but also the knowledge and guidance to bring artistic visions to life. Tasting the Fablab with Eliot Duran
For anyone who only vaguely recognizes the term “FabLab”: FabLabs – short for fabrication laboratories – are public workshops where you can make things using all kinds of techniques and computer-controlled machines. Think of laser cutters and 3D printers, for example. FabLabs are also communities where, in addition to the devices, makers also share ideas and experiences with each other. For artist Eliot Duran, the FabLab was a discovery that made his artistic work fall into place. We meet him in the FabLab of iMAL in Brussels.
