How do you transform a physical object into a digital world? In this two-part workshop, you’ll first create your own character or object out of clay. We’ll then scan it using the Polycam app and bring it to life in Blender — the free, open-source software for 3D animation.

In two hours, you’ll be introduced to the basics of 3D modelling, rigging and animation: the techniques behind films, games and VR experiences. Artist Sarah Lauwers will guide you step by step through the entire process, from clay to render.

Sarah Lauwers is a filmmaker and mixed-media artist. After completing her Master’s in Fine Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels, she specialised in compositing, 3D animation and game design. She is currently an artist-in-residence at Cas-co in Leuven.

An admission ticket to the exhibition is included in the price of the workshop.

What to bring?

A laptop with Blender installed (free from blender.org) + a smartphone with the Polycam app (free basic version).
