What makes an action a ritual? And what happens when that ritual takes place in a virtual world? In this intensive day session, Robbert&Frank / Frank&Robbert explore with you the VR environment of their work WOOD — inspired by the archetype of the Tree of Life — as a place for encounter, collective action, and symbolism.
You start the day with an introduction to VR art and spatial storytelling. Afterwards, you explore the virtual world yourself, guided by observation questions: how do bodies move in VR? What can an object mean? After a shared lunch, you brainstorm about a ritual you want to perform together in the digital space.
In the afternoon, Robbert starts coding live to turn your idea into reality — transparent, experimental, without guarantee of a result. While he codes, Frank continues working with the group on the physical and conceptual aspects of the ritual. At the end, everyone tests the adjustments in VR, followed by a debriefing.
Robbert&Frank / Frank&Robbert is an artist duo that explores VR as a space for collective interaction and ritual. This workshop aligns thematically with their performance Table Dialogues – WOOD.
An admission ticket to the expo is included in the price of the workshop.
